Ditto on that.  The hype over multitouch is really way out of whack with the
actual benefit to the user.  That being said, I really do hope that Android
does implement it because in some cases the pinch to zoom really is quite
handy.  But having the zoom in/out buttons like Android has is really
superior in one major use case: single handed operation.  This is something
I am routinely running into as I use my G1 as a GPS/Map device while I'm
doing my long road cycling.  just try to hold the phone and manage a pinch
to zoom with one hand while doing 20 on a bike ;)
