I see it as a better long-term prospect to include all types of apps.

If you only include open-source apps then you're limiting the field, and 
even if you only include free apps it'll re-enforce users views that all 
apps should be free which would not help anyone trying to establish a 
business around Android software.

I would mean that in the short term there would be some great free apps 
as people take a punt at getting revenue from a prize as opposed to 
getting revenue from sales, but, unless Google offer the prizes every 
month for the rest of Markets existance, it wouldn't help grow a 
sustainable application development community.
