Now, of course, the exact current implementation could also stay in,
with the API getting removed from the SDK at the last minute (e.g. if
the implementation is good enough for the build-in widgets which come
from "trusted" apps but would cause some stability issues with
3rd-party apps).

Those things happen, and they often do at the last minute.
