There are people who (still) feel exactly the same way - about their desktops. Most people use their computer for things like email, web browsing and playing solitaire. They already have way more power than they need.
So then you might say, "Why not just get a G1?" If you have to make a choice between a smartphone or a netbook for any and all of your computing needs, I am going to guess that most would choose the netbook (and a cheap cell phone).
