I dont think so. Why would Oracle lose out on such a huge developer community and customer base of MySql by burying it? They should work towards harmonizing the two technologies...maybe through a unified API..to make Oracle and Mysql work together more easily.
And to think that MySql will get buried if Oracle abandons it is also not true. MySql community version is GPL..available to anyone and everyone. Anyone can start developing upon it and present a rival to Oracle in the future...again...someone like Google..for all you know ! With MySql...Oracle has a great opportunity to have a monopoly in this space and to get exposed to an even bigger customer base. By supporting MySql..Oracle will keep getting revenues from MySql enterprise customers. Why would they lose out on existing customers?
