I am not too sure whether existing MySql customers will be willing to
renegotiate their terms and migrate to a costlier Oracle just because
oracle wishes to bury MySql.

Regarding the maintenance of 2 different databases..i dont see any
financial stress arising out of it. In any case, Oracle will need to
support existing customers of Mysql. They cant just drop them. Mysql
being open source has widespread penetration...and oracle should not
mind using this as an opportunity to gain traction for its own product
offering. MySql enjoys traction amongst small businesses and mid sized
businesses.Oracle should see this as a business opportunity targeted
towards SMBs. I cant think of a single small business today...that can
afford an Oracle license!

Secondly, apart from Mysql...Oracle can also use other Sun products
such as Glassfish+Sailfin, and cut a carrier grade binary bundled with
Oracle DB for Teir 1 operators. For small businesses and
deployments, they can reuse the current Mysql bundled binary. This will
actually help Oracle to cut across the telco operator spectrum.

What Oracle actually does...will be clear in due course of time. Maybe
then we can look back to this thread and say..."i told u !" :)
