For example for my hobby projects I like svn and Windows. svn is fine for a small usage, and there are good IDE integration tools like the subclipse plugin. So for example to play with an SDK app, this is perfect and it's a very low learning curve, accessible to most people, as it should. But for something massively distributed like the android source code, svn is far less appropriate. It simply doesn't scale well enough whereas git was designed exactly for that purpose.
