A couple of thoughts on the Market limitations: 1. The 325 character limit is probably a bad idea but the problem I think lies in the fact that users almost never visit the developer web site. I've seen significant changes when I added "For more info and an FAQ tap the link at the bottom to visit the app web site" to the description. You can also include "or send an email" if you think you're ready to handle the load. Basically the issue here is educating users and the more apps indicate this possibility in the description, the more users will be aware of its existence.
2. Inability to respond to user comments: this is quite bad and something should definitely be done about it. The ability of the developer to post one comment as a reply doesn't even come close to dealing with this (especially since the developer may choose for privacy reasons to use a secondary Gmail account for uploading stuff to the market, which basically makes this a non-workable solution). However, I think making a forum out of the comments is not the way. This risks turning a useful review tool into a mess. The simplest solution to this would be to allow the developer to send the user a private email (without making the user's emal address visible to the developer). The user may choose to follow up or not, but I guess the point of this exercise is more to offer support to your users (which the Market requires you to do while preventing you from doing it) than to make your reviews look good. 3. WRT abusive comments (to which the developer is unlikely to get a response from the user), they can be dealt with by marking them as spam. I'm not sure what the Market mechanism of handling comment spam is but it seems to work most of the time. -- Paranoid Android. http://sites.google.com/site/paranoidandroidproject/ --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Android Discuss" group.
