You think that email is encrypted between different smtp servers? It isn't. Email is blasted in plain text all around the world. This makes gmail's use of encryption moot. The only way to safeguard your email is to encrypt the message, i.e., write your message, encrypt it with the recipient's public key, paste that into your email client, hit send. Some email clients support this, but I don't know of ANYBODY who uses that feature.
