I've said it before, Google developing apps for android (or just putting their 
name to apps their employees develop in their spare time) is probably one of 
the worst things they can do for the ecosystem. (you can see the original

Sometimes I get the feeling that Google sees Android developers more as a 
source of unpaid help and ideas than seeing us as partners in trying to make 
Android a success.

With my AndAppStore hat on it also bugs me that they don't look to help 
non-Market app directories even though we're serving companies and groups they 
don't (i.e. the ones who can't get the Google stamp of approval), they don't 
list their apps on 3rd party directories, the copy protection system is not 
open to third parties use, and market benefits from using APIs only available 
to system apps, all of which make it extremely difficult for third parties of 
offer a comparable compatible solution.

Grrrr.....
