Hi everyone, I just thought I would chime in with my 2p on the issue. I am a long time lurker, and this is the first major discussion that has got me wanting to voice my opinion. I wrote a full response on my blog androidbloke.co.uk(http://tinyurl.com/listenapp) , but I think there are somethings that have happened since that I wanted to add.
I see a lot of developers talk about shutting up shop as soon as google moves in on their turf. Can I just point out that most of these apps that are developed by google, are developed by Googlers in the 20% time (http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2006/05/googles-20- percent-time-in-action.html) Therefore it is really no more than 1 or 2 people per application doing something they are interested in as a part of their daily work time. App Developers have the advantage of being the ones who have started applications because the were passionate about something, created features which they felt wanted to be included in the app and are able to use any source to build community and following for their applications and have the freedom to release what they want and how often they want. Based on this freedom and passion, I personally see app developers winning out, it may mean that they need to change in the short term but sometimes change is a good thing- if it produces the best apps around. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Android Discuss" group.
