If it was user voting that decided his percentage then I'd see that as highlighting one of the problems of user voting.
None of the apps that I can see in the top 50 were deemed essential enough to put into the G1s' firmware, yet Market was. Microsoft, Nokia, RIM, etc. are piling hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of dollars into developing app stores, yet none of them are spending anywhere near that amount on developing anything like an ADC 1 top 50 app (if they're bothering at all). So in terms of indispensability, well, users may not think it is, but the reality is something different because few users would go very far hunting for apps to make the most of their 'phone without it. There's no denying that. But Shane was complaining about how his app was judged by users. As a user, that might not be the most critical app for everybody (it certainly isn't for me, *as a user*.)
