I do not know... I will maybe try again later, also with another SD
card, to see if this is the culprit.
Maybe it is the fact that I had around 30 MB internal memory available
(maybe less at time of install), and this was not enough for some temp
files (unzipped data around 26MB) ?

Ok.
Though 5M saved IS lot of space in internal memory. I have to often
make choices to uninstall apps so that I have enough free space left
(nder 30MB free android pops up an alert).
And this is with a Magic, with much more internal memory than G1. I am
sure G1 users would be glad to save as much internal memory as
possible.

Mark Murphy answer is right. There is only an on-screen button in
camera application.
