Has anyone picked up a Motorola Droid without going through Verizon? I see that Amazon.com and others have it available sans service plan -- Amazon's price is $529. While pricey, that pales in comparison to forking over for a service plan from Verizon, particularly when I only anticipate using this phone for testing. For a $2,500 or so cost difference for two years, I can live with just WiFi.
With GSM, so long as the phone is unlocked, life is good...but I have no idea whether a CDMA phone can be used without a carrier plan. My CDMA-fu is weak. Any thoughts?
