Fair point. Though I was suggesting to plead ignorance rather than
outright lying.

Still, this process is obviously not guaranteed to work, and might
just be a waste of time. Drying the phone is the OP's best bet, whilst
attempting to return it should be at best the last ditch effort when
other options have run out.
