It's up to 3rd party developers, and phone manufactures, who choose to use android on their device, to come up with a better solution. The calander app with most Google Experience branded phones are google apps and not part of android per se. Perhaps you should start work on a PIM application that would better suit your needs and distribute it on the market, but I wouldn't expect this to be a part of Android.
