Pinch to zoom is a feature, but not on its own. On it's own its a bug, because you know what, I'm used to using my cell phone one handed. I have tried to use my iPhone one handed. If it was a better phone it would work.
Do you ever pinch to zoom one handed? Was it an enjoyable user experience? Do you know what is intuitive? To click on buttons on the screen. Perhaps the zoom in and out buttons need to be bigger? I do think Google should, eventually, use multi touch more in their apps. But they better work well for 1 handed people, still. I like a common UI across my devices. I don't have multi touch on most. It can't be mandatory it has to be optional.
