Yes, I do believe that people find apps by searching the market.

What you've seen in cross promotion in apps strongly correlates with
what I've seen in Adwords ads.
Out of 388 clicks, I've seen 0 installs. Of course, I could try to get
a larger sample, but I don't have that money to waste.
These were from keyword searches that were proven to convert when
people used them to find my app in the Market.

The message is pretty clear; if I were searching for an app, I'd be
searching in the Market, not a browser, and not in other apps.

Nonetheless, the experiment I want to try is different. A
recommendation from a developer to an opt-in newsletter is going to
carry more weight than banner ads in an app. How much more? I don't
know. Since many people will just search the market rather than
following a link, you can't track all of them.

Since it was recommended by my instructor, who is a VP at Myxer, I
think it is at least worth a try.
