I would be interested in writing apps for it too but it has sorta
flopped in the US market and there is little value for it outside the US
at this time. The big problem was the blocking by Hulu and other online
streaming. Netflix is only in the US and Canada and I don't know if
other countries have anything comparable. The telecoms are acting like
bullies when it comes to streaming mainly because so many of them own
cable TV outlets too and see those revenues going away. Our US
broadband infrastructure is sad at best because we've let greedy
business people run the show. In fact on one forum recently someone
mentioned we have "a third world quality broadband" and someone wrote
back that was an insult to third world countries, many which have better
broadband service than the US. Let's not forget the price point too,
you can buy a Roku box in the US for as little as $60 and get Netflix
and other services. BD Players that support streaming were available
for under $100 in the US this holiday season. Consumer looks at
GoogleTV for $300 and then Roku box for $60 or a BD Player for $80 and
guess what happens?
Maybe GoogleTV was not the best thought out product?

I have a Revue box and find the thing to be quite useful and well
designed. It could use a bit more spit and polish but so can every
gadget. What's really great about the Google TV system is it's all
software that can be upgraded OTA without the users having special
knowledge or skills to do so.
The thing that I really find exciting about Google TV is the prospect
of writing apps to do the things I personally want it to do. I am
looking forward to the release of the SDK and the chance to expand the
device's capability with my own imagination. That's the real power of
this thing.
