Four stars is pretty good for a free app, and it hasn't stopped anyone from downloading these apps. Their Orkut app is rated three stars, and still gets at least 5 times the downloads of alternative apps that are rated higher than that. A strong brand can usurp quality. I think you need to accept the fact that Google's app will be installed first, and with that in mind, figure out where your app is better or different.
