Yes, I was going to end up doing that, but stupidly checked the "All
Mail" Label on the phone, which triggered a sync, which triggered a
delete - all gone. :-(

I'm using Gmail's IMAP server from now on for all my mobile needs - my
phone's IMAP client can export emails, unlike the phone's Gmail
client.
