There was a period where I couldn't download ANYTHING on my Milestone, and it wasn't the fault of the Market servers. Sometimes a phone just ends up getting into a bad state, and in my case the problem had a combination of causes -- I had to log in to Google Chat to get things to sync up again, but low available internal memory prevented that from working until I uninstalled some apps. On top of that, the Milestone (and the Droid that I have) periodically loses the ability to talk to WiFi (though it "connects" just fine), and you have to cycle airplane mode to get it to actually send packets again. Because of the latter problem, I'd assumed it had gotten worse and was preventing the download of apps, when in fact there were two other issues. My point is that the "can't download" is at least sometimes a CLIENT issue, which may or may not even be Google's bug (the Milestone WiFi bug is likely in the hardware drivers, for example), but even if there are Google bugs, they may only be able to be fixed by an OS update. And with all the crap carriers add to each phone, they frequently take forever to even offer the ability to update a phone to a newer OS version. Milestone only recently got 2.1, and it wasn't an automatic update, so there are still likely thousands of people with those same issues. For all we know the Market bugs may only happen on semi-broken handsets, and Google is reluctant to accuse one or another manufacturer of being incompetent when it comes to getting their handset to work correctly. If there are any Google issues, and they've been fixed, it would be nice to know, though. They just need more people on the Android team. Or they need to focus on improving robust behavior and STOP pushing for new features until they reduce the number of actual defects (as opposed to enhancement requests) in their bug tracker to zero.
