That's way better than sending the APK through e-mail.
This has two major downsides for many people;
1) The user has to enable unknown application sources.
2) Even a non-technical user is likely to see how to re-distribute it (ie,
forward the email you used to inform them of the link)
I send people the version that I use for my non-Market and non-Amazon
sales and create an account for it online so it will work. Otherwise it
won't. For the record only the Market version has been broken and then
breaking it disables a popular feature.
