Google makes billions of dollars every year. Part of that money comes from the
whole GMaps philosphy to serve location based ads to consumers. So now they are
going to put ads in my maps and charge me to use them? That’s like me paying
companies to put ads on my site.

Starting in November, Google will be charging for maps as well. I think the
quota will be the first 25,000 impressions (what's the exact definition of an
impression?) per day will be free, above that there will be a charge.

OT for this group, but the exact definition of an "impression" is here:

I shudder to think how much server power the GMaps API requires at their end,
and can't really blame them for charging. Before GMaps, there were NO good free
map APIs (and not many good paid options, for that matter).
