FWIW, there do seem to still be some bugs with the emulator. Running
Monkey I've seen it do things you can't do on a device like opening the
menu when there was still a dialog that needed to be canceled. On my
fast machines I had to throttle things to keep Monkey from doing some
stuff to throw false errors. And the only errors I got running 50K
events were never possible to replicate running the app on the emulator
or device. Very suspect. These were with 3.x API images.

Ken,
I think we need more information from you. I think that the emulator is
working fine.
The console window in eclipse should display something like,
"Installing....[your activity ] .......... as one of its messages....
After the emulator is up and running [30 seconds minimum] to load it to the
screen for the first time with a couple cmd windows loading.
you might have to unlock the emulator by sliding the unlock button.
Regardless, you should see an icon under Applications with your title of the
program.
If you have made it this far and your still following along here:
Run the app.[click on it] if just a blank window appears and its the simple
hellow world app . check your layout file and then check your strings.xml.
I would say that its one of those two combinations.

That is exactly what it is supposed to do. That is all the output you will
see in your console unless you explicitly output something.
If you are running the emulator for the first time you need to let it do
its thing and build and load the entire Android OS and SDcard (if you
enabled it). Fire the emulator up then wait a few minutes and see if it
works properly
