FWIW the tmobile g2x reportedly runs generic android without a load of
mess. (And it can be reflashed, at the cost of warranty support.) It
is available for $150 or so w/ extension, or possibly free with a new
line.

I'll be able to say more definitively in a few days when mine gets
here :) but vanilla-android is one of the big selling points on their
website.
