A friend of mine has a new app on the market that hardly anyone seems to
be able to buy.

I've tried several times, and it doesn't work at all for me, though the
app DOES register a few sales. Just to be sure, I tried buying another
app and it worked fine. I've tried both from the web site and from the
device. Other people have reported the same results. The error happens
before the "confirm", so I don't think this is the same error that is
producing "error during checkout."

I've also had the market search return an app I wanted to download, but
when I get to the app there's no "INSTALL" button. If it's disabled for
some reason it would be nice for a replacement "UNAVAILABLE" button
that, when clicked, explained WHY it was unavailable. Getting to an app
in the market and not being able to figure out how to install it is just
frustrating.
