The patents are almost always invalid for prior art, obviousness, or
too general reasons, the real problem is that you are right to be
concerned because you can get almost any patent granted in America.
It's left to the judges to throw them out and some in Texas seem to be
either hand-shakers or simply dumb. Meanwhile large companies can
prevent small companies from competing. OTOH this is only likely to
happen once you are a reasonably sized player, Suing lots of small
companies into bankruptcy, I would have thought would seriously affect
the Apple brand. Though I guess the conditions the devices are built
under have no effect, but maybe that's because that's out of sight for
most consumers.
