If the "crush" doesn't crash their server. I was at the GDC expo last Thursday. What a mess that was! I'm a GDC alumni from the early days when it was much more fun and the last one I was at was in 2001 in San Jose.

Really? I thought registration was a breeze at GDC. They've fixed it since San Jose when you tended to have to stand in long lines even if you were preregistered. I walked right up to a computer to sign in, and then up to the counter for my badge and goodies.

I also got in to the expo and talked with Googlers there. They even had awesome answers to my questions -- apparently they were showing my game on the monitors there, and have approved it for promotion (!!). But it was also great that they were able to answer real questions -- and that they weren't too swamped. Maybe you were just unlucky about timing?

I've been going to GDC every year since 1991, though, so I'd be more inclined to complain about the number of people I don't recognize any more -- with 19k+ people showing up to GDC at this point, the people I do know are hard to find. Back in 1991 there were only 300 people attending, and it was at a tiny conference center in Santa Clara (IIRC). THAT was awesome. :)
