My preferred poison is C/C++/Lua. You can do that using the NDK (I use my own library, but you can also use Moai [1]).

Or you can use HTML5/JavaScript and package the app with PhoneGap [2] (other options are available).

The advantage of using EITHER of the above approaches is that you can write app on Windows, Linux, or Mac and then deploy on Android or iOS. Moai supports deploying on Chrome, Windows, Mac, and Linux as well.
