I noticed my att phone apn failed today. What's your provider?
It's not AT&T.. and it started working again after a cold reboot.

I have some tools that quickly and conveniently disables the data
connection by internally setting the APN to a dummy value. Even
though they were all set to enable data, I suspect the APN got hosed
up by a bug in these tools.

In any case, my question is still unanswered. I would like to know
how to get some diagnostic info when I'm having network problems.
Even when not using flakey tools, half the time the data does not
connect and I have to switch to an alternate APN, or add an APN proxy.

I recently changed to T-Mobile and at the moment don't get particularly good data service here. The device mainly shows "E" for Edge and occasionally an "H" for 4G. That means that my apps that are android licensed may fail when trying to register which is a good test for customers in areas where there is poor data service. Just a couple blocks up the hill service is all 4G and never a register problem. This will go away shortly since T-Mobile has a new antenna going in down the road and also MetroPCS which they are acquiring has good coverage here.

Too me the icons on my Galaxy Nexus pretty much tell the story. Sometimes it will just report "no service emergency calls only" here. And yes I've done reboots and gotten service back. Also note that if wifi is on it the Nexus may have problems finding the mobile data service.
