Hi--
I followed the steps at
http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/building-angstrom to build
"systemd-gnome-image" for my beagleboard-xm. The build itself worked
just fine but it did not include mplayer, which I need, so I set about
to do the necessary bitbake's to get the mplayer package...all of which
worked just fine (as far as I could tell). I copied the .ipk (and all
related/dependent .ipk's) and installed them successfully--it took a
couple tries but I got there eventually.
So, I go to run mplayer and pick a simple .wav file and while it did
"play" the file, there was no sound coming out. (To be clear, I made
sure the volume was up and tried 2 different sets of speakers!) I also
tried a .mp3 file and again mplayer appeared to be playing the music but
no sound.
I then notice that there is a speaker-test utility provided with alsa,
so I copy that .ipk (and dependent modules) on to my sdcard, install
them just fine, and try it out. Again, no sound. I also try the aplay
utility on the .wav file--nothing.
So obviously I'm missing something somewhere. I have played audio out
on this beagleboard before using other images so I know it's possible. I
don't understand why it isn't working when I try to build my own image.
I'm also puzzled because no error messages seem to show up even if I use
verbose mode on some of these tools. I also poked around in the /sys,
/proc, and /dev directories to see if something obvious jumped out at me
but I couldn't tell. By all appearances alsa is installed and mplayer
is happy to talk to it!
Anyone have thoughts on what I should look for or try out next?
Try running alsamixer and going through every output channel and
double-check they are not muted.
