Hi Paul, Your directive is probably indeed firing before the resource comes back. that should not be the problem. In the watch you can detect if the data is there, and if not, just return. I suspect your problem is not as much with the directive, as it is with the way you handle your data. If you create a plunk in stead of a fiddle, you can add 'files' to your plunk, and use $resource to load those. If you put this up, I will take another look at where your problem is.
