Sorry to barge in like that, but I'd like to understand how the line of what goes in Ant and what doesn't is drawn exactly... As Erik initially stated, new tasks are being pushed back outside of Ant, especially the ones depending on tools external to Ant. This seems to apply precisely to the proposed <velocity> task, which also seem to have quite a bit of overlap with http://vpp.sourceforge.net, the latter having followed the *recommended* 'external' route.
How is <velocity> any different? I'm not discussing its value and/or quality, just why it goes in when a lot of other useful tasks are being pushed out, and there's something very similar already out there.
