Gabriel,

Thanks for the suggestions/instructions.  I have followed your instructions
to the letter, with both 3.5.0 and 3.5.1, both with the same error.  In both
cases I have done a make clean and downloaded clean versions of the source.
It sounds like there is something fishy on my system, I guess I just have to
figure out what it is.  Someone had suggested upgrading by version of make
to 3.80, I think I will try that first.
