If you plan on running commercial software on Linux, I would recommend
using Redhat.  If not, I'd recommend using Debian.

I would qualify that to say that you should run on RedHat Enterprise Server. They are discontinuing their consumer editions, which isn't a big deal because the quality in them had gone down significantly of late. I personally use SuSE, but Debian is another good choice.
