[AOLSERVER] ns_perm checkpass and ns_passwordcheck invalid commands?

Hi

I'm trying to implement a really simple, basic HTTP authentication
method (like the user/pwd popup dialog for htaccess on apache).
But I keep getting errors like

invalid command name "ns_perm"
    while executing
"ns_perm checkpass $name $encpass"
and

invalid command name "ns_passwordcheck"
    while executing
"ns_passwordcheck $name $encpass"
Are these outdated or invalid commands now? Did something replace them
for this functionality?
