If you need to interact from ape to your server, you can always use http 
request or a MySQL connection. There's is preliminary support for system file 
read/write in 1.1.3-DEV I think (it's something Peter worked on). 

Make sure to run those in background otherwise you can block APE. Run as much 
in JavaScript before using those or caching data can be a good idea.
