I also hate interfaces that scream at me. I agree, the colors should be user configurable - perhaps based upon criteria that the user chooses. They should certainly be optional. Overall, Appigo has done a great job with the overall user interface, conveying a lot of information without making it look cluttered. In fact, my least favorite part of the app are all those options for completed todos - I think they are gimmicky and add very little in terms of utility; personally, I just keep completed todos hidden.
