Actually, I always thought Alar allowed us to present a better product to
the consumer for a longer period. I can't figure out how it could have
resulted in "cardboard". I don't think it led us to harvest immature fruit.
My experience is not as a direct marketer, so perhaps my point of reference
makes a difference.

A lot depends on whether you think as a consumer or producer. Of course
the producers
loved Alar because it gave apples that looked ripe but stored longer. The
consumers
expected a ripe apple but got cardboard. This led to increased demand for
Grannies from
