Maybe you mean the beak.  This is the pointed end some peaches varieties
develop especially under hot conditions.  I am cc:ing this to Paolo
Sabbatini at MSU.  He may be able to provide an English equivalent

Bill,

No, not a disease or insect thing.  It's a little lump that sometimes
appears on peaches.  In Italian it's called an "umbone". Something similar
though a bit larger sometimes show up on eggplant.
