Many years ago, my wife and I bought a farm in MO. The farmhouse had a
horrendous infection of cockroaches. The cause was mainly due to a water leaks
in the kitchen plumbing and bathroom that kept the sub-floors wet. First we
fixed the leaks (cockroaches love water). Next we made sure there was no food
left out. We even packaged up the food of our lap dog, and put it in the
refridgerator at night. We tried bug bombs, roach proof, and roach motels, but
didn't get much results. We had the best results with the simple in-home
insecticides that come premixed in gallon jugs (Ortho, etc.) I sprayed the
stuff every day, in and around the outside of the house, for about two weeks.
That seemed to reduce the populations significantly. I eased up on the
spraying a bit, but it wasn't until about 3 months that we were completely rid
of them. You can gauge the infestation by going in the house at night and
flipping on the lights. Watch them scatter.

  Subject: Apple-Crop: Cockroaches in housing

  HI Apple croppers,

I have a problem. I had an elderly gentleman living in one of my wood cabins
for free and he had cockroaches in the cabin. I do not want to move the next
person in until the cockroaches are gone. I am in Michigan and can freeze the
cabin, I am going to tear out the walls and carpet, but then how do I kill the
cockroaches that are there? Also will the appliances still have live
cockroaches in them if I move them to a barn that is not heated? There is no
one living there now so I can also use any chemicals I want for now. Help
please.
