I am a university extension specialist ... and even more specialized in
entomology. Other than posting our newsletter I rarely express opinions on
production issues, but this time I will ...

Why not concentrate on raising good quality apples from the ones we have now
... and on incorporating new varieties and improvements in management for
everything we grow? That's what consumers ask of us, whether we grow apples,
peaches, pumpkins, or sweet corn ... or produce a wide range of other products.
New varieties with desirable traits are good for the industry.

In the 31 years I've been growing and marketing apples PYO, I've never seen the
excitement that Honeycrisp has generated with my customers. I'll take a dozen
more if they will build on that excitement (= increase in demand). We'll plant
EverCrisp in the hope that it may be one of the dozen.

Exactly what we need a new apple variety. We already have enough. We don't
know what to plant for our area, will it sell, can you grow it everywhere.
We have a lot of good apples now, why not concentrate on raising good quality
apples from the ones we have now.

It's excellent -
