If you have a IIGS, the simplest way to use a big hard drive would be to
make a couple of ProDOS partitions (one to boot, the other for more space
for any 8-bit apps you have) and set up the balance of the space as one big
HFS partition.  I have a 4.3GB Seagate Barracuda (just $20 from the local
old-computer store, plus ~$10 for an 80-to-50-pin adapter) hooked to an
Apple DMA SCSI card that's set up that way.  The only consideration is that
the drive doesn't spin up unless the computer's switched on, so you have to
reboot after the drive is spun up (the sliding apple will appear while you
wait).
