Greetings. I am a frequent reader but non-poster to the list, mainly because I don't know that much about the //e. However....I have learned a lot lately.
After the recent thread, Destroyed Computers, I got going and set up the gear I have been stashing in my elementary school Resource room. I now have a working //e, a working GS, and a Mac LCIII with a //e card (which took some effort, but now works well). All of that was done so that I can explore the dozens and dozens of disks that I rescued over the last few years as the Apples went out the back door. Today, for the first time, I sat down with some kids and used an old program called Counting Critters. They loved it, and it was perfect for them. (I am using this as a teaching tool, not as an independent activity.) That was some nice payback for all the work! I hope to find some more goodies in the pile. But I know that my hardware won't last forever, so I want to save as many programs as I can and someday move on to emulation on my several Macs. I am stuck because I cannot copy a program from the 5" disk to the LCIII hard drive. The Apple system utilities disk has a function that seems like it will do the job, but then it asks if I want to destroy everything on my ProDOS volume. I cannot let it overwrite the components that the //e card needs to function. Also, I would guess that it would overwrite whatever program was previously copied there. The Mac does not see the disks that are in the 5" drive, either. I can't find instructions in the //e card guide on this task, unless I overlooked them. So, folks, how can I get these programs saved? And once saved on to HD in ProDOS partition, how to move to Mac in a format a) for archiving and b) that an emulator will like? And, finally, I know that I need to acquire and save the ROM from my //e and GS in order to use emulation software. However, I can't find the steps to do that. Any suggestions? Many thanks!
