If I remember correctly, it's caused by a memory error.  If the RAM on 
the motherboard is socketed, try replacing it.  If it's soldered, well, 
replace it only if you're really good with a soldering iron.

Try holding down the closed-apple key while hitting ctrl-reset to invoke 
the built-in self test.  I think that's the right combination.  IIRC, 
holding down both apple keys while pressing ctrl-reset (or power up) 
invokes a more extensive RAM test.
