Easiest way to see if it is an Upgraded IIE, is opening the box and wiping off the 
replaceable chips.  If the machine has chips with latest dates 83, it is NOT enhanced. 
 Enhanced  chips will have 84 and 85 on the chips.

Of course, if you have a monitor, the italics IIe will tell you it has been enhance.  
The latest Appleworks will not work on an non-upgraded IIe.
