Monday, June 21, 2004 I had posted my problem with an Apple 3.5 drive (800K) that no longer will read/write after an aluminum plate label came loose inside it, causing a jam. My thanks to the 5 guys that responded to my plight (3 via Apple2List, and 2 via personal emails).

Jeff got me wondering if maybe I might succeed - so I tried. After finishing the delicate procedure, I was optimistic. But alas - it still fails. I checked my database (AW 5.1 of course) of all my computer stuff. The history of that particular drive shows it failed in 1989, and my dealer replaced its guts. Even an experienced repairman didn't tackle re-aligning the head. So - I'll stash it away, and try to buy another drive for a spare. I see I paid $314 for a new Apple 3.5 years ago. And, as I recall, the list price was $395. After examining the innards, those prices look reasonable to me. -- Bill Neef Grass Lake, MI, USA <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> -- Apple2list is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and... / Buy books, CDs, videos, and more from Amazon.com \ / <http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect-home/lowendmac> \ Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> Apple2list info: <http://lowendmac.com/lists/apple2.html> --> AOL users, remove "mailto:" Send list messages to: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/apple2list%40mail.maclaunch.com/> Using a Mac?
