Hi, folks. I'm new to this list and was hoping some of you could provide me some advice about putting an Apple IIgs to work.
I've had a couple for a while but haven't done much with them. I believe they have 1 meg of RAM. I've got the 3.5" and 5.25" floppy drives but no hard drive. I've got some GS/OS software I downloaded somewhere and few other bits of software here and there on old floppies I've acquired over time. I'd like to make one of the IIgses more usable for everyday work, such as word processing and printing, and I'd love to do e-mail or the Internet on one of these puppies if possible. Some questions: I've tried daisy-chaining more than one 3.5" floppy drive, but neither machine ever seems to recognize more than one 3.5" drive, although I've read that this can be done. I bought a card to add an extra meg of RAM but could never get it to work in either machine. Was I doing something wrong, or did I likely have a bad card? What is the best and easiest way to get some sort of hard drive working for a IIgs? What kind of printer can I use? Do I need to add anything to the IIgs to use a printer? What about e-mail or the Internet? Is it possible? What kind of modem or software do I need? Seems to me I read somewhere that there's a way of doing this, but I don't remember where or what it is. Also, I know virtually nothing about bulletin board systems. I've looked at some of the Web sites mentioned on Low End Mac on the page about the Apple 2 list, but they're either pretty complicated or don't have a lot of good information for the beginner. Can anyone help? I have several Apple IIs and am particularly impressed with the IIgs. I like to figure out ways to show that these machines still have practical use. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. R.J. [EMAIL PROTECTED] __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Address AutoComplete - You start.
