That kinda kills a discussion. :( > there are likely a number of open-source and other languages for > these machines There are a few with the source code available, but which aren't open source per se. I seem to recall a Forth interpreter in this vein, and you can always buy the source for the Byteworks compilers (as I have). I'm fairly certain that there is an open source 6502 cross compiler and probably a few cross assemblers. > as well as different versions of the languages you do have As far as I know, the only C compilers for the Apple II (which aren't cross compilers) are from Byteworks. Yes, there are several Pascal compilers (I'm aware of Apple's, TML, and Orca). There are many assemblers (SC has been reclassified as freeware, Merlin, Orca, Ninjaforce, and probably others). There are a number of different versions of BASICs, several of which are compilers. There are no implementations of C++ as far as I'm aware of (unless you are using some sort of C++ to C translator on a different host). > i love programing as well. on tip, stay far, far away from cobol Now you are enticing me to see it. To be frank, I'm not a big fan of programming. What I like are programming languages. Just call me a computer linguist. ;) So I'm going to leave the question open, because web searches don't encourage active discussion.
